Vacancy: Chemist/biochemist/chemical engineer in carbohydrate and plant cell wall analysis - 14.09.2011

Department of Plant Biology and Biotechnology, Faculty of Life Sciences is offering a position starting 1 August 2011 or soon thereafter. It is a full time position based on external funding, currently limited to two years.
 
Job description:
The duties for the new position are aspects of complex carbohydrate and plant cell wall analysis in both Danish and international projects.
 
The laboratory undertakes both very basic science projects and applied, cross-disciplinary projects. Biofuel and anti-cancer vaccine development are examples of the latter.
The candidate will be responsible for running GC-MS including method development and maintenance of the equipment. The candidate will manage samples from the beginning to the end, e.g. from handling genetically modified plants in the glasshouse to analysis of polysaccharide fine structure. The candidate is thus expected to take active interest in the projects.

Qualifications:
Special emphasis will be given to the applicant’s professional and personal skills as stated below:
 

  • Cand. Scient., chemical engineer or equivalent
  • Experience is required in GC-MS including the chemistry typically used for sample derivatization
  • Skills in carbohydrate analysis or carbohydrate chemistry will be appreciated
  • Enjoy practical work in the laboratory
  • Possess excellent analytical capabilities
  • Has good interpersonal skills, including a good command of spoken English
  • Can work independently as well as in teams
  • Service-minded and responsible

Terms of employment:
The post will be filled as an AC-TAP position according to the agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations.
